Where Palosanto is

Palosanto Tablao Flamenco is at Calle Francisco Baldomá 82, 46011 Valencia, in the El Cabanyal neighbourhood. El Cabanyal is the city's old fishing quarter by the sea. It is not in the old town around the Cathedral, so check your map before you set out. The tablao is beside the Cabanyal Municipal Market and a building called Casal Fallero Justo Vilar, and the tablao's own building has a white façade. Its website puts the beach about 200 m away. Wikipedia places El Cabanyal in the eastern part of the city, very near La Malvarrosa, Valencia's main beach, and describes it as a former fishing enclave.

Getting there by metro and bus

The tablao names Metrovalencia line 5 as the metro route. Line 5 runs between the airport and the port, so it also serves you if you land the same day, and calls at Alameda, Colón and Xàtiva on the way. The tablao's site calls the stop Marítimo-Serrería, and Metrovalencia renamed it Marítim in 2022, so you may see either name. It also names EMT city buses 32 and 81. The site gives only the line and stop names, not directions, so use a route planner for the walk to the door and check current bus stops before you leave. At Marítim you can also change to the surface tram lines that head east.

Finding the door and checking in

Look for the white façade beside the Cabanyal Municipal Market. Doors open before the show, and entry begins when they open. Go to reception first, whichever way you booked, and show your booking there; the tablao says this check applies to every purchase method. The tablao says the confirmation email is the only proof of access it accepts, so keep it on your phone or print it. Seats are not numbered, and the staff assign them as guests arrive.

Timing and season

The show lasts about an hour, and the start time depends on the date. The tablao's own pages list different timetables for different days of the week and mention an extra earlier show in high season, so use the booking calendar and your confirmation, not a timetable from another site. The tablao says capacity is limited and recommends buying in advance. The booking page notes that the ticket is valid for one day, and the tablao's ticket page adds that it makes no change for weather or traffic delays unless you told it at least 24 hours ahead. In summer, Visit València says, the Paseo Marítimo fills with craft stalls, which makes the seafront an easy stop before the show.

What to wear

Neither the tablao's website nor the booking page sets a dress code. The one clothing rule listed is that bare feet are not allowed. Beyond that, wear what you would for an evening out. You will be sitting for about an hour, in a seat staff choose, so comfort is a better guide than formality. Because you will be on foot between the stop and the door, check the route first and wear shoes you can walk in.

Rules in the room

Two sources set the rules, and they overlap. The booking page lists smoking, flash photography, making noise and bare feet as not allowed. The tablao's own terms go further: silence throughout, no photos or recording, no going on stage without staff permission, and no food or drink placed on it. The tablao also reserves the right of admission. Where the two sources differ, follow the stricter one.

What you see and hear

The tablao says each show moves through different flamenco styles, called palos, with variety and improvisation. It names the dramatic soleá and seguiriya and the festive alegrías. Song (cante), dance (baile) and guitar (toque) are the three strands, and the tablao says emotion travels through movement, rhythm and improvisation. Verónica Pulido, a Valencian dancer, holds the artistic direction. Wikipedia counts over 50 palos, from the most serious, grouped as cante jondo, to lighter forms, and says the guitar sets the key and tempo and marks the verses with falsetas, guitar pieces with their own musical identity. Wikipedia describes flamenco as an art form based on the folk music traditions of southern Spain, so a show in Valencia is flamenco performed far from where it grew up.

Children

Infants up to 3 years old can enter free. Children aged 4 to 10 need a ticket, and you must bring a document that proves the child's age. If the child's age does not match the category you booked, entry can be refused and no refund is given. The tablao requires silence throughout the show, and a performance lasts an hour, which is worth weighing for a younger child. The tablao's own site gives no children's policy, so the booking page's rule is the one to follow. For a child who is 4 or older, book the correct age category at purchase.

Access

The booking page marks the venue as wheelchair accessible. It gives no detail on step-free routes, seating positions or toilets, and seats are assigned by staff on arrival. If you need specific arrangements, ask the tablao through the contact page on its website before you book,. The tablao says it replies to messages as soon as possible. Mention any seating need in your message, because a ticket does not let you pick the position.

Around the venue

El Cabanyal is known for its tiled house facades. Visit València names Calle del Progreso and Calle de la Reina as streets to walk, and calls the neighbourhood an open-air museum. It also lists the Cabanyal Market, the Rice Museum, in the old Molí de Serra mill, and the Paseo Marítimo, which runs towards the Marina, as places to visit. Wikipedia describes the area as a Heritage site of Cultural Interest. Most of this suits daytime better, because the show is the evening plan.

Who this isn't for

This is not the right choice if you want the old town on your doorstep, because the venue is in El Cabanyal. It is also a poor fit if you need to film the show, join in with claps and shouts, or sit where you choose, because recording and noise are prohibited and staff assign the seats.
